The Stanford At Sea course has begun, and 22 students are hard at work this Spring Quarter preparing to sail a schooner 3,000 nautical miles from Hawaii to the Line Islands and back. They will experience the wonder and beauty of the Palmyra Atoll - a remote U.S. territory occupied only by researchers there to study the unique wildlife inhabiting it.
During their voyage they will be immersed in ocean science, marine biology, marine literature, history and culture. All in a quarter- five weeks at Hopkins Marine Station, on Monterey Bay; followed by five weeks at sail aboard the research schooner SSV Robert C. Seamans.
We will be following along on their voyage, mapping their position and posting photos and blogs along the way. Check back often to share in their adventure!
